“If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.” ~ Henry David Thoreau
This is a compilation of habits that might be hindering you from creating a life of your dreams.
1. Lack of Consistency
The number one key of maintaining a life that you desire is consistency. You have to show up everyday regardless of the circumstances. Whether it is raining or you simply are not motivated to work. You can not rely on your emotions to be persistent. A tip to stay on track is to have a planned schedule of your daily activities. Your time should be devoted to work on your goals.
2. Seeking permission or validation
Often we look up to our parents or friends because we measure their definition of success. Create your own definition of success, be clear on what opportunities you are seeking. It is important to pin-point what you want and have written short-term and long-term goals. Have a daily reminder of your commitments.
3. Undervaluing your worth
Knowing your worth means the value of your contribution. It could be in the form of a service or product. Although it is important to research market value to place a price tag on your service or product, you should also consider what problems you are solving. The price tag should be a reflection of its value. In order to sell, you should be able to voice out the benefits and what problems you are assisting with. This approach will attract individuals who will willingly buy from you.
4. Excuses
We often tell ourselves why a plan or idea will not avail. It is important to make a conscious awareness of your limiting beliefs and guard your mind. Figure out your doubts, fears or belief systems that are creating such thoughts. Look for examples or models that are living the life you desire. This could include both famous people and individuals you encounter locally. Start telling yourself a different story of why you can achieve anything. Additionally, look for groups of like minded people that can encourage your endeavors and promote positive thinking.
5. Lack of Focus; doing too many things at the same time
We can often have a habit of saying yes to projects or assignments. If you notice that your time is spread out too thin, there might be no room for specializing or fine-tuning your craft. Look at your commitments, are there areas of your life where you have to reduce the time you spend or become less involved in some activities? Perhaps you can alter your time to volunteer less hours, or spend more time practicing your craft. Furthermore, you can carve out time to collaborate with individuals. Be effective with how you spend your time. Stop bragging of how busy you are; answer this question, are you productive?
