Deciding to join a networking group is based on your interest, the culture of the group, and your time commitment. Everyone is different, the key is to find out what works for you. An illustration is joining a BNI, this group setting may suit people that are full-time business owners and are able to make the monetary and time investment to be recognized as an active member. However, you can implement the same strategy and habits utilized in such groups on a day-to-day basis. Networking is best when you are focusing on adding value to the people you come in contact with, instead of hunting for customers. This habit and mindset attracts people that know, like, and trust you.
Secondly, the purpose of networking is to expand your network. It is suggested to keep a track record of the people you meet, their profession, interest, and what sort of support they might be looking for. Providing support and building relationships assures you to stay on the top of people’s mind for times of referrals and sharing information. Diversifying your network allows you to meet individuals thriving in different industries and also diversifies how you think.
Lastly, a networking group could be started on platforms like Meetup or creating an event on platforms like Eventbrite. With the internet, it is possible to create an online hub that shares experiences and a common interest. This is observed through Facebook pages, Pinterest, and online forums. Start simply by offering information that adds values to a target audience, and slowly expanding topics based on the needs of your audience.
